Insurance Query.

Im purchasing a car and the garage is giving me a weeks free insurance, however they wont cover me for commuting to work so the cover is pretty useless but i needed it to buy car tax. So i need to take my own policy out in next few days meaning the car will be insured on two policies is this allowed? I know it will be only for a week,,

Also i have another car which i intend to keep for sunny days etc, that is fully insured and with that car i have had 3yrs ncd so with my new car i take it i cannot use my 3yrs ncd because my other car is still insured? So with my new car i will have to start fresh and state i have 0yrs ncd?

many thanks.

Use the dealers insurance to get home and tax the car then cancel it, call your existing insurance and ask them to mirror your existing ncd on your new car. Simples.

Can you insure both cars on one policy.

Sometimes, But will it be cheaper than 2 separate policies, Maybe not.

And if you lose your no claims on one then you lose it all.

On the other hand can you afford to keep it insured with zero no claims on a fresh policy?

If you have named drivers they may suspect dodgy deeds afoot.

Just use the insurance to buy the road tax. Not sure what the issue is?

So what if it doesnt cover you for work use - its only a week anyway.

And if, in that entire week you were involved in an accident, just say you were driving somewhere other than work?

    Simples.

That might be difficult if the OP happens to have a bump coming out of work car park (or even in it):o

Thanks for replies, i asked about putting 2 cars on same policy but wont as the other car is a modified car. (so think i will have to just put 'have access to other car') The cover note has come through and says " social, domestic & pleasure & use by the insured in connection with business, so going from that the car is fine for work....
    thanks.
