Alliance and Leicester Loan

Hi everyone, its the first time I have been on this area of the forum and would be extremely pleased if someone could give me some advice. Back in 1992/3 my partner and I took out an Alliance and Leicester loan in order to buy a car (a silver D reg Ford Sierra for £2500) from what I can remember. We were told we required PPI at the time and from what I can remember paid it each month, think it was included in the monthly payment.
I have tried to speak to the Alliance and Leicester about this but they say their records only go back six years and in order to trace it they would need an account number. Unfortunately as yet I have been able to trace any details of this loan. My question is should I give up or does anyone think this is worth pursuing? Many thanks for any advice.

You have difficulty with this due to the year.
I don't think requesting info with a Sar for £10 would get you far with this, you could try though if you think you may get some info back, you will have to put as much info about you, Dob, Address at the time and anything else you can to help them find you.0 -
I wouldnt botther wth the SAR as I'm trying to do exactly the same for a loan from A&L which was settled in Feb 2006. I sent them an SAR / £10 chequewith all my details & even account number. They've cashed my cheque but say that with details I've sent, they cannot find any record of my details. I'm not giving up though cos I think it's a fob off by them!
Good luck x0 -
You should do a SAR and request all info they hold on you and not just the loan agreement, did you let them know this was A&L loan? they have the archives for A&L and it is possible, just maybe, that they have info further back than the 6 years, some banks do go back a lot more than the 6 years so it may be worth a try.0

Thanks everyone for replying. I intend to ask Lloyds my bank, if they would be able to trace any details of the direct debit to Alliance & L at the time, doubtful but worth asking and another hunt around the house but dont think there is much hope of finding the account number. Had another thought I remortgaged a couple of years later to incorporate this loan with our mortgage so maybe the new mortgage co would have some info.
What actually is a SAR please, and is there a link for this please.
Dont really want to get too stressed out about this as the A&L/Santander phone system is awful and has probably already cost me a bomb in phone charges. Thanks again and if anyone else has any more input I would be grateful.2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494

A Subject Access Request (SAR) letter is sent to the Bank and (for a £10 fee) the lender is legally obligated to disclose all information it has on file for you. What actually is a SAR please, and is there a link for this please..

Most lenders keep records for 6 years, but some information which has not been deleted may still have been kept from longer ago.

Many thanks for this info, after turning the house upside down have found 3 letters from the Alliance & Leicester all quoting the account number and signed by various people in customer services. The first letter describes details for early settlement, including a rebate of insurance premium (not sure if this was the payment protection insurance but think so), the second saying we have cancelled the direct debit instruction and the third letter says they have received our payment.
I may be wasting my time but was told on the phone to write to Santander at Bradford (FAO Archives) so may give this a go, nothing to lose but do not really have much hope.
Thanks again2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494
