Part ex advice
Im thinking about changing my car and took it to the garage to get valued for part-ex who gave me an offer of 3200 compared to the 3900 which is on the whatcar website. My car has a it of a scuff on the rear bumper but is in otherwise excellent condition with low mileage (35000 over 5 years) and I even got parking sensors fitted when I bought it.
Is their offer fair or should I expect it to be closer to the online value?

Did you ask them to make an offer to purchase the car from you, or a part-ex value against a particular vehicle you were looking to buy ?
All these things are only an indication at best , there are loads of other factors that come into it... a garage may not want the hassle of dealing with selling on your car (depending what it is), or they may be desperate to shift a high value car and so offer you more for yours.
If you are doing a part-ex , the only figure that matters is the actual "cost to change", not how they put that down on paper (which can vary for their own tax reasons).
Also - the £3200 may be an opening offer, which they are prepared to negotiate up from.0 -
I'm looking at one of two cars to replace this one, both of which are around £16k so I'm looking for a cost to change of round £12k. I'm changing models but staying in the same make (and even bought and serviced my current car from this bunch).
I'm looking to negotiate but they just don't seem that interested.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
Advertise your car for £4100 and if a buyer gets you to take 10% off you are still getting a better deal than from the showroom.0

I was looking for a simple purchase at my local main dealer.
Looks like I may have to go further afield though.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
Its the difference to change that matters.
One garage could offer you 3000 for your px, but they only want 13000 for the one you're looking at.
However, another garage could offer you 4000 for the PX but want 16000 for the new one.
Most people would go to the dealer offering 4000 as "its a better deal as i get more for mine.."0 -
In my experience What Car give optimistic valuations, what does Glass value your car at?0

maybe the car you own now is a duffer

your local dealer really doesnt want it because he knows it will attract the blue rinse brigade and their husbands with their sticks bashing the sills saying in my day lad we filled these wi wood tha knows
and then go on to offer silly cash prices that we all know will be paid in those old style 20's0
