Able and Cole-now in my area, any good?

Options
Hi

I have been thinking about veg box schemes for awhile ans an Able and Cole flyer has landed on my mat.

I am old style, on a diet-eating lots of veg with 2 fussey but veg eating children.

So 2 adults and 2 children 5 an 7, do you recomend small mixed or mixed box?

Also what are there eggs and other stuff like?

I am on a budget of chourse but think less is better if better stuff if you know what I mean.

Thanks

week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.54

if you do a search on here for box schemes you'll see a few threads that mention them - some people are very pleased with them. They have a great website and good CS and you can tell them the things you don't like so that you don't end up throwing food away. Where I am we can only get A&C through a courier service and I found that lots of stuff got damaged and so I was throwing something away every week. I've used other box schemes and currently use Riverford and I love the idea of the boxes and find they work well so in general I'd say go for it but do a little search first to see if there are others in your area that are cheaper as there are usually several suppiers in an area.

Check out https://www.bigbarn.co.uk for a local veggie box supplier.

We used Abel and Cole for a while, and they were pretty rubbish to be honest. We did have one of their nationwide boxes though. Now we just buy our fruit and veg at the farm shop or market where possible.

We have a small mixed box for £10, 1/2 doz organic eggs and milk every week from abel and cole and are very happy with them. Much better than our local firm.

I get the £23.00 nationwide box once a fortnight (and a box from a local company the alternate fortnight)

I have found the quality very good if a little pricey compared to more local schemes.

The ability to flag up things you don't like (fennel- yuk!) is very handy as are the recipe sheets.

    Hi

Currently we have a small mixed box from Abel & Cole and the quality is far superior to supermarket fruit and veg. Very happy with the selection and for £10 for the box it offers better food at a cheaper price than our local supermarket. Also, we are inclined to eat the whole box rather than anything going off as used to be the case when buying from the supermarket

I was unhappy and the quality and quality to be honest. I too paid £23 once a fortnight and it would hardly last 2 adults and 2 toddlers(1&3) 5 days. plus it went off really quickly. Maybe this is because it was part of their nationwide scheme. The first time I recieved it the box was battered and bruised and the fruit all mashed all over each other as it is literally thrown in a box.

We tried them (nationwide box) and were very disappointed. Bashed veg, fruit that needed to be eaten within 2 days...
But their customer services are great!

We now use Riverford.co.uk and love the goods!

    Hi Smiley,

I've added your thread to an earlier one on Able & Cole veg boxes that should give you some idea about them. The replies on these threads might help too:

    Hi Smiley,
I've not tried them myself as they do not deliver in my area, but I do know that Quidco are offering a £10 incentive to take a box with them. Perhaps you could order a small box ( £10.95 if I remember right - so you'd only pay 95p in effect) and see what you think, as it seems that happiness with the contents can be a matter of personal taste.
There were a few comments on the quidco thread over on the Up your Income forum ( I think) about getting these boxes. Maybe read them and PM someone there?
