Getting ESA changed from income based to contribution based?

As you may or may not have read in my previous posts, I am asking this on behalf of a relative that has a high grade brain tumour. After diagnosis she began treatment and was very ill, so we didn't pay too much attention to welfare rights etc....a charity applied for her entitlements and she was awarded income based ESA.
It's only now that I realised she should have had contribution based ESA. She had not paid enough NI contributions, but she was in her early twenties, and had been in full time education and had finished uni within the year...this qualifies her as being eligible for contribution based ESA.
Is there any way that she could get it changed to contribution based....she has been receiving income based as we did not realise.
Any info appreciated, thanks.

There would have been a period in which you could appeal the CB ESA decision/ refusal, and that will have long passed by now.0

Why do you want it changed to contribution based?0

Contribution based won't be affected by changes to her circumstances, e.g when she moves in with her partner.0 -
How long ago was she put on income related?
Which group is she in?0 -
She's in the support group, and went onto income related around a year ago.salfordgirl wrote: »How long ago was she put on income related?

As she is in the support group she won't be affected by the changes.0

I think that's for contribution based though, not income based?0
