Vw westerfalia camper fridge

Hi

Apologies if this is in the wrong place but not sure exactly where to post.
We have recently bought a 1982 vw westerfalia type2 camper and inside is the original electrolux fridge. We cannot get the fridge to work and have no manuals or instructions. We have already rung and emailed electrolux and the general domestic line and all we got is "records don't go back that far" .
Does anyone know where we can get some instructions either website or a shop or if anyone had any books on this model of fridge?
The make is electrolux-Kerry-dometec model no c660c-ge prod no 9265362.

If anyone knows of anywhere would be appreciated.

Thanks
:T

Fridges arn't complicated, what are you expecting the instructions to say?

They will say plug in set the thermostat. Presuming you know it has power, your 30 year old fridge is broken, you could try getting it fixed, but it's 30 years old so no point. Buy a new one.

Is it purely electric or gas/electric? On conversions that old it would not be uncommon for the fridge to blow a fuse (ours used to regularly) and for the gas supply to block up.

BTW, your van converter is probably "Westfalia". They are still in business - have you tried asking them?

I know fwor enquired if your fridge was gas/electric, but is it the 3 way Electrolux (gas, 12v or mains)? We had one in a 1976 Leyland Highwayman. They do take an awful long time to get cold and tend to work better on gas. On gas, it's a very small flame, more like a pilot light and it does need to be kept clean. If we were taking the motorhome out I used to light the gas the evening before leaving to give it time to cool down then run on 12v while travelling to keep it that way. The back of the fridge should be accessible, usually by unscrewing a panel on the top or via the exterior vents but you may need to do some resealing if you take them off.

Thanks - by coincidence I'm just in the process of removing the fridge in my van to fix a sooted up burner and poor ignition - that guide gives me all the info I need to adjust the ignition electrode.

Also agree with datostar - they do take a long time to get going, but once running they're Ok.

Just a quick update, having got the fridge out of my van.

The cause of the poor performance on gas was not that the burner was "sooted up". Actually the part of the burner where air is supposed to be drawn in to mix with the gas had been blocked with rust scales - when lit, the gas was burning at that point rather than in the burner. Yikes! Fortunately the cable insulation above seems to be have been self-extinguishing...

With these old thermosyphon fridges, when they stop working turn them upside down for a day, then back the right way for another day before restarting, often works but don't know why.
