Hello all i have a question regarding LOWELL PORTFOLIO LTD, right where to start in 2005 i took out a store card with burtons i was young and didnt read the small print and astronomical interest rates needless to say i fell behind with my payments and then stop paying all together and had a default listed dated 2005. I ignored my debt and basically forgot about it untill 2008 when my girlfriend and me got together and wanted a house she suggested i pay the debt which was now in the region of 935 pounds with interest and she began paying it via giro on my behalf, we broke up and again i went off the rails and stopped paying it i have heard nothing about this debt untill i got a new girlfriend last year and moved to a new house i checked my credit report with experian and no defaults appeared on there what so ever i know have good credit with all my creditors ie my credit card my bank my contract phone and my loan for moving house. however i did notice that lowell portfolio had been doing searches on me then the other day i got a letter regarding the original burtons account stating that i owe them 637 pounds , i have not replied and still dont know where they got my address from what i need to ask is should i reply to them or contact them regarding this debt or ignore them and can they put a default on my credit report as no such debt apperas on there at this moment in time
Many thanks

They can't put another default on your credit report.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Earlier thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3925919
Earlier advice was that this debt was Statute Barred. However, as your ex girlfriend paid towards the debt in 2008, the waters are now very muddy.
The DCA will argue that you have paid towards the debt in 2008 [and possibly for a while after?], so it does not become Statute Barred until 2014 at the earliest. As it was your girlfriend who paid, rather than you, the original Statute Barred date of 2011 should still apply, but your big difficulty will be actually proving it.
As an aside, can I suggest you go here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/member.php?u=1845229 - find all your posts and edit out your name. DCA's do read this site.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
