Car Insurance difficulties

Confused.com!

It is renewal time for me and the quote with my existing insurer Axa wasn't particularly cheap so i shopped around and found a quote through a comparison site with Axa and Swiftcover that were cheaper!

I phoned Axa and they said the quote i got is correct - it will be cheaper for me as a new customer, so if i prefer i can cancel my renewal and take out a new policy with them through the comparison.

Anyway i have tried to take out a policy with Axa and Swiftcover (who are part of Axa) but when i try to pay the initial payment both have refused saying 'the details i have entered mean they cannot give me a policy' and it gives a reason code. I have spoken to Axa who say simply unfortunately their criteria means they cannot insure me but are unable to tell me why!

Since originally taking out the policy with Axa the following has changed: My job is a supply teacher not unemployed. I put business user as i go to different places of work, my address has changed. I'm confused as to why they would give me quotes if they can't actually insure me. I am also on a DMP.

Any thoughts as to why they may have refused?

Annoyed as other quote are £50 - £100 more.

Had you informed them previously about all your changes? If not, then they may be concerned that you now provide a completely new profile to the one they hold??

Are you trying to pay in full or asking for installments?

No, I am moving this weekend though - we are supposed to be getting the keys for our new place later this afternoon!

Job wise i have been doing this for a few months.

Right - is this something you have seen happen?

    Installments?

I have done some researching and most of what i have read is people saying they have had no problems getting car insurance on installments even with bad credit...

Historically you wouldnt, in this day and age where defaults are getting increasingly common then some insurers and insurance finance companies have actually started to be stricter on who they'll accept for installments.
