The pup has been wormed and was vet checked before we got him so if there was fleas it would have been noticed then?

Maybe. Maybe not. Unless it's a serious infestation, fleas/flea bites can be difficult to spot. It should be rare for pups to have fleas. Cat fleas are the most common kind that are found on dogs so unless the breeder of the pups had cats (or they were kept in an outhouse/shed where feral cats mught have access) it should be nigh on impossible for pups to catch fleas if reared in normal, sanitary conditions.

My own dogs have never had fleas and I don't use preventative treatment. They are just at low risk of catching them so I don't bother as I don't like dousing animals in unecessary chemicals.

What is the best remedy for fleas if that is the problem?

As RooBee say's,best to get the pup vet checked,as for treatment, the olly realistic option is Frontline Spot On.All those things from the supermarket are utterly useless, but also get pup checked for allergies.

If you suspect that the puppy may have fleas, then you really need to get him to a vet ASAP and have him properly checked over. If he as come to you with fleas then hos overall health would be of great concern to me...he may not have been adequaltey wormed either and a heavy worm burden could kill a small pup.

Also, I already explained to you about vaccinations. It is better NOT to get a pup that has had the first vaccination already. The best thing to do is call around the vets and find one that uses the same brand that the breeder already used for the first injection. If you use a vet that favours a different brand, they will have to restart the course from scratch and repeat the first vaccination again. It is not a good idea to overload such a young pup with vaccine doses. You can change vets again afterwards if necessary.

Took Zac to the vets and it turned out he had ear mites but thankfully drops are working.
