ANOTHER question on defaults

Hi,
I really have problems getting credit and am getting a bit confused.
2008 was my worst year for credit as I was on a very low income and spent way beyond my means. Since then, however, I notice that I am accepted for some things and not others. I have a nicely paid job, all my debts (and there's not that many) are getting paid with more than the minimum.
Thing is, while some creditors keep putting my limits up (one of my catalogue limits has gone up to £5500!!! That's a £2000 increase in a year!!!) and I only hold a debt on them of about £500, I get rejected for an overdraft increase. I really want a car but there's more chance of me setting up shop on the moon. I currently live at my parents but me and my girlfriend are looking to move out and rent very soon. One of my biggest worries is getting turned down at the processing stage.
I check my credit account monthly and currently have a score of 366. My last mark on my credit account was 3 "3"s in a row and two "AP"s from dec 2008 - mar 2009. However, this is from the same company that now keep putting my limit up! The accounts that should say settled, are settled, all the rest say up to date.
My biggest black mark is a default I hit July 2008. Here's the details;
Communications Supplier from (MOBILE PHONE NETWORK)
Name Mr XXX Date of Birth XXX
Terms 0 @ £ 0 (Monthly) Status Settled
Current Balance £ 0 Start Balance £ 0
Credit Limit £ 0 Default / Delinquent Balance £ 413
Start Date 25/10/2007 Date Updated 27/01/2009
Date Last Delinquent Date Satisfied 27/01/2009
Default Date 17/07/2008
Payment History
J F M A M J J
1 1 2 3 AP AP D
I believe this default is seriously holding me back. Is there any way I could try and get it removed? And what are the chances?

If you defaulted then this is an accurate account of your credit history and will not be removed.
I think most letting agencies/landlords merely check for bankruptcy/CCJs rather than defaults or late payments, so you should be fine.
I would recommend reducing credit limits on the cards you don't use/need and try to pay off all of your debt before taking out yet more credit. Also, consider putting money away to save for a car rather than taking out credit to get one.Savings target: £25000/£25000
