Windows Vista - "limted connectivity"

Ah the wonderful Vista.

Installed wireless usb stick.
Tricky as you have to be connected to the internet to install it...
Seems only Vista has the driver..

Now, I set it up, works fine.

Next morning I get "limited connectivity"
It's locked me out of the network.
Reboot and it works fine.

Anybody know Vista well enough to explain this one to me.

Bargepole. Vista.

Are there specific vista drivers from the manufacturer? I can't wait to get Vista personally but I'm not going to until my pc and peripherals of fully compliant.

Beware of the Vista drivers for USB sticks... My Vista installed Atheros based drivers for my Netgear WPN111. although they are compatible and show as netgear drivers they continually disconnect and give limited connectivity.. Revert back to the XP drivers and everything is great..

Yet another reason not to install Vista.

The limited connectivity is due to the DHCP server not issueing your network adaptor with an IP address therfore your not connected to your network. That can be due to loads of things, drivers are screwed, DHCP sever (normally your router) is off or has been off, your wireless adaptor has gone to sleep sorry the USB port has gone to sleep check the power management settings for the usb port.

You can manually configure your IP details so reboot so you get connected click start, run and type, cmd, hit enter type ipconfig/all and enter again
    make a note of:
    IP address
    subnet mask
    gateway address
DNS server address (both of them if there are 2)

click start go to control panel and network connections
rightclick the wirelss connection and properties you are looking for the tcp/ip internet protocol settings where you can enter the ip address, subnet gateway and DNS addreses.
you should get a network connection again and your internet access.

Not really... How many threads are on here having wireless problems with XP. If time is taken and help given then it can be sorted out just the same....

Its not the wireless thing I made the comment it is the driver issue.

I have had a few issues with built in drivers not being quite right and the manufacturer not having a driver yet. It was the same with 2000 from NT4 you just need to wait with older hardware don't go upgradeing just quite yet.

Yup totally agree... I suppose if people are just wanting a plug and play OS they should stick to XP just now as manufacturers are a long way off from getting away from anything but BETA drivers. XP still has a lot of life left for people.
