Santander & PPI Claim

Hi

This post is on behalf of my mum, so the details might seem a little sketchy at first but will try and find out more info later on and post it here when I do.

My parents (I'm assuming the loan/s were taken out in both of their names) had a various loans with Alliance & Leicester (now Santander) probably in the late 1990's/2000's and paid PPI my mum has some statements (not all) but they definetly show she paid PPI. She used the template letter from this site and sent it off to Santander, expecting a good outcome, several friends of hers sent letters and received cheques no questions asked!

Santander played hardball and asked lots of questions etc, before coming back saying she according to their records she never had PPI on the loan. Which is false as she has statements that show otherwise. Santander closed the case, which made it hard to call up and speak to anyone about as all they would say is the case has been closed and they would not discuss it further.

Today she has told me that she has spoken to them and now they have said she did have PPI but they have a telephone recording of her agreeing to it from 2008. I know Santander aren't the best bank in the world to be dealing with, but what should be her next step.

Clearly they are trying to fob her off and disuade her from claiming. Is it likely they would have the audio recording from 2008, should she ask for proof of that?

If they do have it and she did agree to it on the phone does she have a case for claiming or not? She is considering contacting a PPI Claims company and asking them to take over but I'm trying to convince her to just do it herself and not lose out on X% of compensation.

So everybody what would your advice be now?

Thanks in advance

** Having looked at other threads about PPI it seems as though if you are self employed they are useless anyway. Well in 2006 my dad was made redundant but quickly set up a ltd company (therefore becoming self employed, right?), so didn't claim on PPI as he was back working straight away. Well as Santander says my mum 'agreed' to the PPI in 2008 surely it would have been useless and not paid out anyway since my dad was self employed at this point. Will this fact make a difference to the claim**

Reject the reasons and ask for the recording of your mum accepting the PPI and if it was front loaded then you would like to hear this being explained in full by the Advisor.

If this PPI was paid in with the loan monthly payment this was Front loaded PPI that was put on at the start of the loan and paid back over the term with interest, this is the most upheld of all PPI mis sell claims.
