PhD student - best account?

Hi,

I'm a part time PhD student and was wondering if anyone could suggest a good bank account? I've just received a letter telling me that my natwest graduate account is changing to a select account which I don't particularly want as I already have the select silver account with them.

A free overdraft isn't particularly important.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How are you defining "good"? Extras? Customer Service? Are you happy to pay fees? Do you want/need credit interest?

I already have an account I pay fees on (select silver with Natwest £8) so I'm not looking for another fee paying account. I guess by good I mean I actually get something out of it i.e. interest on the money in there or a free overdraft or some sort of discount for something rather than my money sits there and nothing happens because then I may as well just put it all in the select silver account I already have.

Yes I've had a look but to be honest I don't really understand the banking system that well and was hoping there might be some accounts for postgrad study which would be similar to the normal student account.

I should also mention that I have recently started a mortgage and so have had quite a few credit checks on my account so in hindsight I'm guessing there's not much point in applying for another account right now as I probably wouldn't pass their credit check and I should just close the account once Natwest transfers it from a graduate account?
