advice please- want to open new account- nationwide?

Hi I want to open a new joint bank account for my husband and myself. we currently have the basic co op account.

We have an appt this afternoon at the local nationwide branch as we have no previous dealings with them.

we've been asked to take proof of Id. also said could be helpful to take bank statements and wage slips. I assume cause they want to see if we are worth trying to flog exrtras to.

We are currently on a debt manangement programme. we have also got stuck in a cycle of using paydays loans. (which will be seen on bank statemtns)

Should I lay it all on the table and see if they give us a proper account?
Or should I just show ID and get the basic account and not mention everything else?

monthly income is £2100 pm we are meeting all our payments (altho obviously will have bad credit rating as in debt managemnt. owe approx £30k)

Is honest really the best policy?

any advice would be greatly appreciated

The chances are that they will get the info from a credit check but maybe not. It depends on how thorough it is. You have two choices: Declare it and have peace of mind or don't declare it and hope they don't find it.

The point is not that you have debt or bad debt but that you are clearing it and making all the payments on time. This will be seen on your credit report.

There are often various perks available on condition that you pay a certain minimum sum into your account each month, might be worth investigating before you decide what account to go for and what information to share with them.
