in Credit cards
Hi,
I'm new to the forum so please be gentle with me! The problem is a little longwinded but I'll try to keep it brief. Here goes . . .
About 2 years ago I applied for a Tesco intrest free credit card and was accepted no problems. At the end of the interest free period (about 12 months later) I balance transferred the remaining balance onto a Halifax interest free credit card, again no problems there. They even increased by limit by a further £1000 after a few months.
In Feb this year I was coming to the end of the interest free period again with approx £1500 on the card still so though I would transfer the balance again. I can't quite remember who I applied to but I was instantly rejected. I know I shouldn't have but I paniked and applied for another a few days later (Post Office CC) and was rejected again. I decided to look at my Experian file and could see anything wrong on there and my score was rated 'excellent'. Can anyone offer a reason why I may have been rejected?
Luckily for me my other half lent me the money to enable me to pay off the card before the interest rate jumped to nearly 30%.
I should say that I have a Career Development Loan which I took out to pay for my masters degree. I borrowed £8000 and currently have approx £5500 left to pay. I have never missed a payment for this. Yesterday I applied for a Virgin balance transfer card with the idea of paying off this loan and saving myself at least £1000 in interest, however again rejected.
I never seemed to have any problems getting credit prior to Feb this year and am wondering what has changed. My noodle score yesterday still rated me as 4/5. Can anyone offer any suggestion as to how I can improve the situation?
Aside from the CDL I have no other debt, have never missed any payments for any loans, CCs etc and am on the electoral roll. My salary is approx £28K.
Many thanks.

You've got a reasonable amount of debt, and a greater amount of credit, assuming you didn't close down the old card, so probably affordability. What's your income?
As you've found out, your credit score is neither here nor there.0 -
Lending has got a lot tighter but go through the usual questions as see any areas. Are the old cards closed?
Stop applying as this is doing more harm then good. Noddle is only checking one score so if you are concerned apply for all 3 reports to triple check.0
