Mattresses!

Has anyone any recommendation for type/make of mattress? We have never actually made a conscious decision about the type of mattress we have bought before, they've always just come with the bedstead, so if anyone has any recommendations they would be gratefully received. Neither of us suffers with back complaints but we do have a mattress topper we like. I wonder if memory foam is the way to go, they seem very popular......

Best thing to do is go to a bed shop and try them. I love my memory foam mattress. My mother hates hers. Go have a bounce on them and have some fun :)

Pocket sprung with memory foam top of around 6-8cm is a popular choice and something we love. Individual pockets springs stop "roll together"
Trying them in a shop is all well and good but 5/10 minutes on a mattress doesn't tell you a huge amount to be honest so its pretty difficult

EDIT - if you have a mattress toppper you like then maybe just get a pocket sprung mattrees and use your topper?

we bought an exensive memory-foam mattress about 4 years ago. We think it's really comfortable but unbearably hot. We've made do until now, because of the cost, but it's come to the stage where we're either hogging the sofa or waiting for one of the children to sleep at a friend's house & then nabbing their bed :D

Anyway, daughter is having the mattress & we're getting a new one. :j

I didn't realise when we bought it that this was quite a common complaint but I've heard that the combination ones of spring & memory foam are very much better at temperature control.

Its why you don't want too much memory foam on top of your sprung mattress as well as it can "envelop" you and make you very hot. Cheaper memory foam is even worse for this.
Ours has around 7cm of foam on top and that is warm enough in the middle of summer at times, flip side is lovely and warm in winter!

I really like my ikea mattress, nothing fancy about it, its the basic model matrress but its the only matress that I have never had to flip because the padding was so thin I could feel the springs. Unfortunatley its and odd width and only fits ikea beds

I have had memory foam matresss and that gives me some terrible back pain.
