Sqeaky Floors - Who do I Fix

Just lifted carpets with a view to replacing. The stairs and upper hallway are very squeaky. The stairs are MDF(I think) & the hallway is large sections of something similar....it's not floorboards. House is fairly new -7yrs old.
What is best way to eliminate squeaks ?

buy yourself a big box of screws. Be careful not to hit any pipes or cables.

my mum had some squeaky boards and i read somewhere that if you put talcum powder into the joins it would stop the noise.tried it at mums and it worked.
People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with :)

you can lift the flooring grade mdf boards and rub plain white candle wax on the affected parts.
    then replace the board/s.
    Get some gorm.

  • yes, this actually works. The best option is to do both: screw down the floors (the easiest way is to put extra screws where you can see one or two - a cable and pipe finder is a good investment). The talcum powder thing is a temporary fix, but does work for a while.
