Direct Debit

My point was merely that if it turned out to be a correct DD that the OP had forgotten about, or was under a different name to that which he was expecting, it would avoid a great deal of unncessary hassle and embarrassment on his part to check with AXA first.mervyn11 wrote:Do NOT contact AXA it is the banks resposibility to sort this out immediately.
Plus the fact that if he subsquently went to his bank, he would then have the answer to their first question, which would be, 'Have you tried to contact the recipient?'.

Hopefully the person who knows about it will be on at some time to explain it again. If I get a chance tomorrow I will do a search for the info if its not already posted.
Yes this is right. You do not have to have a signed direct debit form now to set up a direct debit. Peple give their banking details over the phone to the company and the company sets it up over the phone. No more paperwork required!
The direct debit guarantee exists to then remedy this if it goes wrong. So if a dd is set up on your account in error as say a customer has quoted their bank details wrong over the phone, or the company have inputted them incorrectly, you can then indemnify the payment.
Lots of comapnies and banks agreed to this paperless way of setting up dd's as it saves time, and resource.
Whether you agree with it or not (and I am not saying I am) its the way it is now.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -

Someone once posted here the acronym used for setting up a DD with no paper mandate but for the life of me I can't remember it.
I have tried to set up a DD for my Tesco credit card but they then say you have to sign a DD form and send it back. I suppose I can understand their caution, but it would be far less hassle if I could instruct them to simply do it through the secure website. (Although I will admit to not having tried since they set the new site up).

I thought it was you who knew the answer but didn't want to say in case I was wrong.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
The bank did refund the DD amount and I am now trying to chase AXA.0 -
If you haven't already, cancel the DD with the bank so they can't take any more payments!0

Were you able to fully resolve this? I work for AXA PPP Healthcare, and could try and pass on to the correct department if you are still experiencing problems?
Many thanks for the offer. I never did get through to AXA, however when I tried the bank again, the person on the other end said it would be refunded immediately with me quoting any of the above advice and also no bank charges were raised - a sign of good will.
Thanks to everyone who took some time out to offer assistance.0
