No garden!

Hi - I wonder if you can help me.

I live in a flat and have to garden at all. I also cannot have window boxes.

Apart from herbs and cress is there any veg I could try and grow indoors?

Thank you
Lydia

You can grow other seeds like mustard and cress, on a little compost in margarine boxes or similar. Article in the RHS magazine about this, they are called micro greens and are the latest trendy thing!!

Try: fenugreek - distinct curry like peppery after taste, ready in 10 days
coriander - subtle yet distinct flavour, ready in 10 days
red stemmed radish - pungent and peppery 7 days to crop
Greek cress - pungent and mustardy, 7 days

Also: amaranth, Thai basil, beetroot 'Bull's blood' (this variety is grown for leaves rather than roots) salad rocket and kale.

I'm referring to the article not personal experience here!!

Or you could do sprouting seeds, try googling it for details.

Tomatoes and peppers if one of your windows faces south. I grew these every year with great success when I lived in a flat.

    Good luck

    Hi,
No grow bag, I put them in 8" wide plastic pots.
keep well watered with plenty of fertilliser
You cant beat picking a tom of the plant giving a quick rinse and popping it in a sandwich, You know how they have been grown and they will be the tastiest toms you have ever had! :j

I did try strawberrys, but the crop was so small it cost 50p per strawberry! not money saving, but they did look nice.

    Good luck

Ginger grows well in good light indoors. Just get a piece from the supermarket that has smooth growth buds on it and put it in a pot of compost about 2 inches down. Keep it warm and watered (not soaked!) and it'll grow into a nice houseplant. In the late autumn empty out the pot and you'll have a much bigger lump of ginger!

If you're able to have a hanging basket you can grow lettuce in it.
