Contents insurance on holiday flat

I just phoned Tescos who do our contents insurance to ask for a quote on our holiday flat. They refused to cover us on the basis we had a financial loss twice, once in 2005 and once 2006 - however we never claimed - I only phoned up for advice, last year we had a spillage on the carpet but didn't have all risks at the time so would not have been able to claim. However she insisted that it was a financial loss even though we didn't claim and sorted it out ourselves.
I spoke to Nat West this morning who said that they would only insure the flat if we had been with them for six months.
Any advice on what I should do - should I take it further with Tesco, is this normal for a response, what other companies should be approached?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

A lot of these 'great' sounding deals tend to come bound up with *perfect* underwriting terms, so that if your history or situation is not immaculate, they can't cope with you.
The AA and others have been pulled up recently by advertising standards for misleading ads suggesting that 'most' people could benefit from fantastic savings whereas the reality is that the offer is much less enticing for most normal people.
You could try some holiday home specialists rather than the general insurers you have approached.
Try https://www.schofields.ltd.uk - they cover holiday flats both in the UK and overseas with pretty good terms (no problems with unoccupancy or requirements to drain down water systems when unoccupied).0
