Fitting of shade sails in conservatory

I've been quoted £350 ex VAT to fit 3 shade sails in my conservatory (the sails themselves cost about £750). This seems a bit steep to me. I'd be glad of anyone's thoughts on this - or from anyone who has fitted them themselves. :)

Frankly I've no idea but your "a bit steep" statement seems rather conservative to me. My reaction was Whaaaaaaaaat!!!

Yes, I think we've decided it was well over the top!
  • They will only give you shade and a small degree of heat reduction. The problem with conservatory blinds and shade for the roof, is that the heat is already getting into the roof space and then your blinds just keep it above them, any air circulating inside then gets warm, and pretty soon the place is boiling.I spent 3 yrs fitting intenal roof blinds, when really they should have been designed to be on the outside.
Easy for lean to conservatories, fit a external awning that will wind out, over the roof.
    For Victorian, slighlt harder.

As for ssils.... they look pretty, ost a packet £700 for 3 bits of fabric.... ouch.
  • Price of the sails seems very high. There are often available in standard sizes (which may not work for you) that are much cheaper. Made to measure ones will be more expensive.

Shade sail installation guides usually mention the importance of secure mounting points (concreting in support posts) and applying a lot of tension. However, this is for an outside installation and ensures that the tensioned sail does not flap in the wind. For an internal installation, the mounting points are less critical and should be perfectly possible for anyone with some diy skills.
