To tell or not to tell...my boss i have interviews

Exactly.
an9i77, if you don't like the advice given, please (and I mean this genuinely) do what you think is best.
But please do also come back and post on here if/when the naive attitude you display backfires on you, and you get fired/have to endure a terrible working relationship with your boss because of your actions.
DCFC79's boss sounds like one in a million (his boss taking it well) and is not the norm in any workplace/situation I've witnessed your scenario play out. It happens, as I've read similar stories on here before, I'm sure, but not often.
Good luck with whatever you do, anyway.
I totally agree with this, it is a naive attitude to think, you can tell your boss you are going for an interview - potentially not get the new job - and expect all to be as it was before. You are kidding yourself. The opposite of what you know...is also true1 -
Just to explain I have no problem with SN or anyone else's advice - the general consensus is that it's not a good idea to tell your boss, and if you read my replies you'll see that I've actually agreed with that and said I wont' do it. So where this idea that I am not willing to listen to the advice is coming from I'm not quite sure.
But SN, your post came across as a little belittling, and I just wanted to feed back to you that it came across as a little rude, it was the tone you used rather than the content that I disagreed with. Go and read it again and I think you'll see where I am coming from. I mean this in the nicest possible way as I'm sure you come on here to try and help people, but if the message gets lost in the way it's delivered, then it's a wasted message.
Now can everyone go and find some other post to post on, I think my question has been answered now but thank you all for your sage advice and I will let you know how I get on.0
