Agree with dookar, think they only look at reason for leaving LAST job, they can't argue if it's end of the contract.

They will probably sanction him if he walks out before they do a CRB check, he may know he would get the sack but they would say he wouldn't know for sure untill the check had been done. If he is a good worker and his boss likes him then there could be a chance he would be allowed to stay.

Of course if the crime was child related or of a serious sexual nature then that's a different matter and he should leave ASAP before any of his co workers find out!

That's probably the only crime that people will lynch him for. A few convictions for GBH/ABH won't matter...even a manslaughter conviction some people dont mind but anything to with children and sexual crimes a big no...As he is working with air cargo they really won't mind too much. They are more worried about large frauds rather than violent acts.

If he leaves he will be sanctioned but if he fails the CRB then he won't.

You cannot say whether he will be sanctioned or not, this is for a Decision maker to decide based on the evidence they receive.

I think the company would look at the fact that he lied when he applied for the job if he was asked to declare any convictions as said above.
