Just to let everyone know of what happened on OPRAH.

HATS OFF TO OPRAH!

I'm sure many of you watched the recent taping of The Oprah Winfrey
show, where her guest was Tommy Hilfiger.
On the show, she asked him if the statements about racism he was
accused of saying were true.
Statements like "... if I'd known African-Americans, Hispanics, Jews
and Asians would buy my clothes, I would not have made them so nice. I wish these people would *NOT* buy my clothes as they are made for upper class white people."

His answer to Oprah was a simple "YES".

When Hilfiger answered in such manner, she immediately asked him to leave her show.

A suggestion:
Don't buy your next shirt or Perfume from Tommy Hilfiger.
Let's give him what he asked for: Let's not buy his clothes. Let's put him
in a state where he himself will not be able to afford the ridiculous prices he puts on his clothes.

BOYCOTT HILFIGER AND PLEASE SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW.

This rumour has been around for a really long time (getting on for 10 years now) and also has affected other designers, such as Donna Karan and Liz Claiborne (the story there being that Liz was on Oprah and allegedly made her remarks that she doesn't design dresses for black women and Oprah, who happened to be wearing a Liz Claiborne dress stormed of the set and changed into a bath robe before declaring that she would never wear Liz Claiborne again) and Oprah Winfrey herself has denied these ever happened.

Another similar one is that allegedly, Lauren Hill said she would rather her children die than have a white person buy one of her albums, which is also not true.

Although Spikey, I think it's worthwhile to pass on warnings and ethical boycotts which are true, it makes me mad when these stories that defame people are started in the first place and even madder still that the authors then use people who are very well intentioned to pass them around the world - talk about getting someone else to do the dirty work!  ::)

I think in these times, we really need to equip ourselves with all the facts before we pass stuff on, as look at those two people who are currently fighting in the EU court of Human Rights to prevent people being sued by multi-nationals. I know that it is not likely that any one of us will be sued by the Tommy Hilfiger company for passing this around, but you never do know!!  ;D

It's because these stories have a ring of truth that they are so widely believed.

I believed it until I was pointed to the Snopes site (the one wlf linked to) by a friend. She tsked at me when I repeated the story to her!!

Yes I heard something similar. I was in a sports shop buying a tennis racket for my Daughter who fell in love with a Venus and Serena one that was I have to say lovely, lightweight and bright pink!
Someone said that their Father has a message on his answer machine that says any Black person who marries a White person should be publicly hanged!! So we shouldn't buy Williams products!
I replied that if he is really that pathetic then he has a lot more to worry about than tennis racket sales and purchased said racket much to Daughters delight.
