Car Insurance - Retrospective Charges
Comments

All that would have happened here would be the broker would have contacted you, told you the premium had increased, and added his service charge on to it. If you didn't pay, he'd cancel, and knock his service charge off your refund.
In fairness,in a lot of instances (Not all), they could apply pressure / use their contacts to get the charge waived or reduced0

im going thru the same thing at the mo......someone has reversed into my car leaving cracks in my bodywork......I called the Ins Co.....to make a claim .....they asked me if i had any convictions in past 5 yrs.....so i just said yes just my sp30back in 2010.........but they said it wasnt on record.....Why wud i mention it if I hadnt disclosed it???? after being kept hanging on for over half an hr..passed from pillar to post, they came up with the charges so I was ready to pay as I said fair enuf if it has been missed, which I know hadnt, I will pay....think it was coming to £190 ish......they then put me thru to someone else who came up with charges dating back to 2008.....(my points were 2010) exceeding £1300.....then told they were for my partners points......We always go online to sort out insurance...and I always have to bug my other half re points and dates and codes......etc.....so we ALWAYS declare what we have....We have used the same Ins Co for all our cars for quite a few yrs now.....never made a claim ....then this happens......
Sorry for ranting on but this is sooooo upsetting.....0

Hardly the best advice for a moneysaving website like this!
You should be directing your campaign at your suppliers (ie the insurers themselves), and seeing if they will help you become more competive, as just repeating your pro broker mantra on MSE at every opportunity like you do is just getting boring!
To be fair, I think that WeeJohnnie was just being honest and transparent, to say that most brokers are unable to compete with the direct market, for motor insurance.
The consumer (of which I am a part) has demanded cheaper can insurance and wider policy cover. That has been delivered.
However, that doesnt mean that those insurers who are cheaper will provide a decent level of service, and/or a decent level of understanding in the event of a claim. The current market helps many consumers. There will be a percentage who will have long-term insurance problems, because they bought on a DIY basis.
To be honest, most brokers would rather not touch car insurance anyway. Just not financially viable.

Fully understand your problem, our company originally wanted £1440.00 but we managed to reduce as they'd duplicated our claims!!
The stress and effect it's had on my health is immeasurable, wish I could charge the insurance company..not to mention the cost of the phone calls etc. We're still waiting for documents to validate their claim, it's only been 3 weeks so I suppose as mere consumers we are expected to wait!!0
