Bidet showers

A bit of a 'strange' topic but I'd appreciate some reviews.
I've just returned from a three week business trip to the Middle East and most public toilets and hotel rooms have a bidet shower fitted. It's just a long hose, connected to the water supply, with a trigger operated small shower head which is used to clean bottoms without the need of acres of toilet paper.
I really really liked them, especially for dicky tummy days.
They are available in the UK but I wondered if anyone has one and can give me a review. Is it worth installing?
Hopefully I've been discreet in my language!

Hi Gers
You could go to Amazon.co.uk and search for bidet shower - there are a few reviews on the different products offered there.
Hope that helps.0 -

Thanks for that - I have done but there are very few reviews and mostly about the equipment and not about the actual use and effectiveness.0 -

these are by no means rare in Europe and I remember we had one as I was growing up.
It can be very useful if you have kids and I think in the middle east they are used for washing feet too (we used it for that as well).
I can't comment of equipment as I don't have one now, but I think it is worth it. The can be very practical for ladies too (and I leave it at that: in the continent we are a bit more open about these things but I don't want to offend anyone)0 -

Do you not still need a fair amount of toilet paper/tissue/paper towel to dry yourself off properly?0 -
Bronnie
a towel like the ones you use for the shower of a face cloth does the job.
In India they have something similar and again, used to wash feet off. No paper needed to dry.0 -
Thanks Londener - I am more than halfway convinced that I want one so your comments have helped.
One of the points is that only a drying towel/cloth is required. When I was in Dubai two years ago a separate little towel was by the hose. This time in another Middle East country there was only the usual toilet paper which was more than sufficient.
Perhaps the topic is too alien, however thanks to those who took the trouble to reply.

I agree with the concept, but wouldn't want to use a public or shared facility. Yuck.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

We used to have a bidet in our house when I was little. We used to use it for pedicures! (sisters and of that age!) The other option was to wash the cat when it would come home covered in oil as a result of sitting under the cat- (allowing the cat to lick antifreeze off its back is never a good idea, it builds in their kidneys and kills them). There was no doubt it had its uses but we could have easily lived without it.
My parents got theirs from a store in London, think it was Heals? Not sure if they still have them now but being a fairly pricey store at the best of times, it could be worth a look?
Also look in Ikea- thats where I'd go to first anyway and also see if you can find any Japanese or Middle Eastern based companies who may well sell to the UK.0 -
Thanks again.
I have sourced a couple of suppliers so am ready to order.
