Car Logbook Help !!!

mraghvani Posts: 16 Forumite
Hi there,

I bought a car 3 weeks ago from a car trader and still waiting for the logbook to arrive.

Ive contacted the garage several times and have been told it was sent to DVLA and I will receive the new one shortly. Ive also been in touch with DVLA and they have no record of any logbook being received.

Is there anything anyone can suggest, as Im not sure what to do now, I could fill out the v62 form and pay £25, or worse case scenario could be that Ive been sold a dodgy motor.

Any ideas or help or what to do next ?

Thanks in advance
eM

Hey thanks for the quick response.

I sure do, I've filled it with my details and still have it in my possession.

Why, what do you recommend ?

If you've only got the green part then that's ok, don't send it off!

If worse comes to the worse you can go to your nearest DVLA office with it and they can sort out the logbook.

DVLA ask that you allow six weeks for the logbook to arrive. Give it another three weeks and if you still haven't received your V5C logbook, go along to your nearest DVLA local office.

The notes on form V62, section D state that you do not have to pay the £25 fee if you have Part 10 - V5C/2 of the logbook.

If you can't get to a DVLA office and choose to send your V62 by Royal Mail, consider using recorded or special delivery. That green slip of paper is going to prevent you having to pay £25 for a replacement V5C logbook. The last thing you want is for it to go missing on its way to DVLA Swansea.

well you dont really have a dilema.
you didnt sort it at the time,so you need tp pay for a replacement.
Or wait for the new ones to come through
    howeer that could be months.
I got one for one car but not the other.

    All,

Sorry I aint replied since yesterday and I do appreciate all the answers provided.

This morning Ive scanned the V5C/2 & V62 forms and have sent the originals to DVLA, fingers cross it all gets sorted out asap.

I could've waited abit longer for the logbook, but its costing me in parking meters and I need the logbook asap to get my parking permit.

Will keep you posted on the outcome.

    Thanks again

The fact that you received the tax renewal notices would suggest that the vehicle record has been updated but you just haven't received the actual V5C logbook.

Again if you have part 10 of the logbook (V5C/2 green slip) from when you originally bougt the car you can apply using form V62 and you don't have to pay. If you don't have the green slip you may be able to order a duplicate by calling 0300 790 6802.
