How many bid retractions is 'reasonable'?

Options
I rarely have encountered a situation where someone retracts their bid on my item, but it's happened twice in recent weeks (different bidders in both cases).

In the most recent case, according to their feedback as a buyer, they retract bids an awful lot - retracted bids 26 times in 12 months.

Is 26 bid retractions in 12 months considered excessive?

I think I've only ever retracted a bid once, years ago, when a seller messaged me and started trying to amend the shipping cost dramatically upwards. I can't see why anyone would genuinely need to frequently retract bids.

I didn't even know ebay allowed you to retract a bid - obvious problem with that is it can be used to scam people - you could use it to sound out the highest/winning bid which is totally against the whole bidding process - weird is all i can say
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

I think the facility is there in case someone genuinely bids say, £1000 instead of £10.00 but as you say, it's weird to see anyone doing it on this scale ...so far as I'm aware.

You can always report them for invalid bid retraction - and I would do so.

No point in forcing someone to win an item which they don't want, but they should learn to bid more carefully and eBay have been known to restrict people who do this too much to buy-it-nows only.

    Will do.

I will wait until the item finishes though - then there's no two ways about it - they retracted their bid without any intention of placing another.

Did you have a reserve on your items?

Putting in a massive bogus bid reveals your reserve price which can then be retracted. I usually do it in the dead of night so that rival bidders don't benefit from the info.

You can only report them IF they do not bid again.
As someone said earlier in this thread, bid retraction is there for people who accidentally enter a wrong amount.
They SHOULD then bid again entering the correct amount.
If they do not do this it is bid extortion and can and should be reported.

Anyone who retracts a bid on one of my items goes on my block bidders list so that they can never bid on one of my items again unless it is genuine.

No, it was a small value item, under a fiver.

After the listing finished, I reported them, following it up with a phone call (which seems the only way to ensure something ahappens, rather than end with a non-applicable standard reply).

Of course, eBay never divulge anything, but the representative did hint that I am far from alone in reporting this bid retractor. I added that when they actually do win (always inexpensive) items, feedback suggests they routinely claim the item was damaged in transit and attempt to obtain it for free.

With this feedback and bid retraction record, my guess is they are costing eBay far more in admin and after sales headaches than they contribute to eBay's profit, all of which begs the question "Why not close down their account for routine policy non-compliance?"

Hi, regarding bid retractions - I have just had a buyer retract their bid, citing the reason "entered wrong amount". However his bid was made 3 days ago.... and he has just retracted it tonight.... and not rebid. I didnt think this was allowed?!

How does that work then,if they are blocked then they are blocked?
