Moving in with someone and affecting his credit rating

Hi can anyone help please.

This is probably a silly question but basically I have a credit card balance which is being paid no worries. But I am thinking of moving in with a friend who owns the house to save money. I am worried that if I do this and change my credit card to his address that it will affect his credit rating and obviously I dont want this to happen.
Can any one tell me if this is the case or because I dont own the house it want affect him at all?

Thanks for your help

The only way you will impact each other is if you share any joint credit accounts. The ones to what are if you are added to any utilities as British Gas do report all names to the CRAs and create a financial link (but EDF dont)

If there is no link then there credit card wont impact them at all. If there is a link then you will impact each other but it is not a massive impact anyway (typically)

Credit history is personal - it is not linked to addresses.

I raised a dispute with Noddle over this. My husband shows on my report with them. We do not have any joint finances but they said because we live at the same address we are linked. I am still trying to dispute this as I thought you had have financial links:cool: We have no links with Equifax or Experian!

On the Connections and Other Names tab where it shows the connection, what does it say the Source is?

We are the same but Noddle quotes British Gas as the source of the connection and in fact there is a BG entry on both our records with them. With Experian and Equifax BG isnt mentioned at (nor the link)

Yes it does say B Gas which is odd because the account is in my husbands name. It also lists Nat West Bank and we have not had an account with them for the last 8 years!

I believe (but someone correct me if I'm wrong), that a "soft" association can be created if two people live at the same address, but that a "soft" association isn't seen or taken into account when applying for credit.

    Or something like that.

The financial associations can stay even if you subsequently close accounts but as long as none of the accounts are active and in joint names you can ask Noddle to remove the association. Address alone is not sufficient to create a link

CRAs may create an association between people living at the same address even if they have no financial links between them. I had a similar situation in 2003 where in Equifax created a association with a cousin of mine despite not having any financial link nor the same surname.

Simple procedure was to send them a notice of disassociation, which is a declaration on my part that there is no fiunancial association with the other party as of that date. Once that was sent they rectified the credit file and since then none of the CRAs show that association.

  • Thanks Guys, Its all so complicated.
But what I am gathering is I wont affect him as we will never have anything together and if something pops up like with the cousin situation I can get it removed with no fault to him, although it seems silly that they connected you anyway.
Can they not make it easier for people who are good people and pay all debts :)

    Once again thanks
