Have you got any religious shops near you?

When my sons did it, I got them a funky modern necklace. It's hard to describe but it was a pewter sort of wavy cross on a leather cord. They liked them as they were very different from the traditional crosses on a chain that most of their friends got.

Edited to add: it was similar to the ones in this shop

I'm not sure there needs to be much more than the obvious rosary beads, bible etc. We didnt buy anything for our children, at the end of the day it will just go in a drawer! lol

Wacky idea, but is it wrong to just get something that a 9 year old will actually like? Does it absolutely have to be religious? After all Christmas is a religious celebration for believers but nobody expects all presents to be baby jesus related.

The Doctor Who DVDs mentioned earlier probably went down better than a hundred rosaries or silver photo frames!

GlasweJen, if you're looking for something religious as a gift, you should try the Pauline book shop in Royal Exchange Square. It's a Christian bookstore and they sell small items of jewellery and gifts. I bought my friend something from there when they left for the Priesthood. :D

For my communion, I got a 'faith, hope & charity" bracelet which I adored. Plenty of places on google if you search.

What about the Glasgow Bible? Your neice is maybe a bit young, but it's a cool gift. It's a book of Biblical tales, re-told in 'oor patter' ;)

I like the idea of a Glasgow bible but child is from up north, says ken and everything!

i was 7 when I made my first Communion, the only gift I remember receiving was a cross and chain in a special 'bible' presentation box - there must have been others but that sticks in my mind for some reason.
Try googling - you might find something suitable.
