Yes, your home insurance is the normal cover for your possessions world wide.

Travel insurance is much more about the medical aspect (primary) and cancellation/ delay etc (secondary)

Could I add that it may best to check the definition of 'personal possessions' on the policy and/or limits as some policies expect certain items (laptops for example) to be specified individually.

I agree that you should check with More Than that the laptop would be covered - some insurers do, some don't.

Also check the excess on the policy.

I'm assuming that you will be taking some type of travel insurance for medical expenses, etc. If the policy includes cover for your personal items also, then your home insurance no claims would not be impacted if you suffered a loss.

Note that this is an optional policy extra - make sure that your policy schedule includes the "Contents Outside your home" extension.

After checking even if you are covered it is worth bearing in mind that

    a) travel insurance has a lot lower excess
    b) it won't effect you're ncb
    c) must insurance companies don't want to know about travel insurance claims but do want to know about home claims

I always take out travel insurance it is a lot easier

Whilst the above may be true you also need to check the T&Cs as most travel insurances' clauses are such that if you are legally covered by both their policy and your home insurance then the claim must be split between the two policies. Whilst the Excess statement remains true B and C no longer are

If you make a baggage travel claim and in the future are applying for home insurance including worldwide personal possessions, you would need to disclose it.

The wording varies but it would be along the lines of - have you suffered a loss in respect of the proposed risk.
