Faulty laptop

I have an Acer laptop which i bough from tesco for over £400.
It developed a fault just before xmas so i called Acer and arranged to have it picked up and repaired in January.
Its developed another fault this week, basically i cant use it...again!
So I am about to call Acer, again, and arrange to have it picked up and repaired.
Its under 12 month warranty which runs out in June, i'm just worried they may do a quick fix and it will develop another fault after June!
I only use it for browing the web, facebook etc. I dont download anything onto it, I have virus protection, etc so i dont know why it keeps developing faults.
Am I entitled to ask for a new laptop rather than another repair?

What was the previous fault and what fault does it have now? Have you googled the model to find out if either of the faults are common?0

It muddies the water a little when you go directly to the manufacturer. Your first point of call should have been Tesco. As the retailer it was their responsibility to investigate and suggest a remedy for your problem. They might well have passed your laptop to Acer but that would have been their choice.
It might be a bit difficult now to go to Tesco and ask for a new laptop (as it's them who would be responsible for providing one) as they're not in the loop.
In terms of your question, are the faults related? Perhaps you don't know. In terms of your consumer rights, once Acer have agreed that the laptop is indeed faulty, you can ask for either a repair, replacement or partial refund (you won't get a full refund as you've had some use out of it). However, the retailer can suggest an alternative if they believe your choice to be prohibitively expensive.
In this sort of situation, it's always worth pointing out that it's broken a number of times and you'd prefer either a new laptop or a partial refund. Bear in mind that if they offer you a replacement of the same model, these faults might develop again. Do some research first to find out if they're known faults on this particular model.

Yes.
But Acer are entitled to refuse your request and repair your laptop.0 -

Yes.
But Acer are entitled to refuse your request and repair your laptop.
Very unlikely that Acer would do this, usually it's the retailer that would do this.
And it wouldn't help the warranty because under your statutory rights your warranty still expires in June. (though Acer may classify it as a new laptop and offer a 12 month warranty on the system but are under no legal obligation to do so)0 -
My first port of call was Tesco. They in turn told me to call Acer0

Tesco are still responsible. They are shirking responsibility, in saying that going to Acer direct is merely avoiding Tesco being responsible for doing the same.
My answer above was based on the fact you are interacting with Acer, not Tesco.
Note any new laptop, if Acer did agree to replace, would be subject to the original warranty that ends in June, by default it would not come with a new warranty as it was replaced under the original 12 months term.
I, personally would let Acer repair it, and stop worrying about what could, should, might and did happen...0 -

Naughty Tesco. They should have dealt with Acer on your behalf. No matter though - all is not lost.
You have two choices.. continue dealing with Acer - perhaps this latest fix will be the end of it?
Or.. go back to Tesco this time, and tell them that they told you to deal with Acer, Acer failed to fix your problem and you'd like a replacement (please). If they push you to Acer again, remind them it's their responsibility to liaise with Acer themselves, not yours."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Think I'll contact Tesco and chance my luck and hope they may replace it0

The previous fault was the laptop switching off and restarting every 60 seconds. After repair the invoice stated 'mainboard replaced'
This time, laptop switches on, power light shows, but screen remains black.
I've written to Tesco asking for a replacement and I await their reply...0
