It's not much to most people but when you spend more than you earn then any amount is a huge amount. £10 would be a huge amount that would have to come from somwhere in the budget and if that means buying value nappies instead of pampers....or even having to switch to recyclable terry towelling nappies given to you for free by the council....well it's not an option stay with the pampers at whatever cost. I can assure you this will go nowhere. I've just had a huge debt of 10 times your figure reach the 6 year mark and the stress of it being there and now it going off my credit report is such a relief. My debt was missold to me but I still had to wait the 6 years. I was told the interest rate was 1.9% so I thought fantastic I'll take it then a year later they said no that interest rate is per month....If I 'd known that I would have used the money in my mortgage at 4%.

    This gets more confusing!

okay i've just paid £14.99 for my report (non of the free ones would let me access it without waiting for the paper copy to come in post) and my vanquis debt isnt even showing on my report???

I just have one outstanding debt to fashion world for £615!!!! (there was only £60 spent on the account in the first place and I disputed it by SAR-ing them in 2009 and never heard back). So unless my report is wrong, this guy must be chasing me about the catalogue debt??

but why is the vanquis not recorded at all? Or do i need to wait a while for my report to update itself?

I can see that Lowells are making an unrecorded enquiry on my account twice a month for the last few months too.

Once the debt is sold onto a DCA the original creditor removes the default as they no longer own it and it is re-registered by the DCA, so in some respects it can look worse on your credit file as it doesn't explain what it is.

Once it is all paid off the default will be marked as "settled" but remains on your credit file, so it looks slightly better.

Regarding the CCJ, don't feel that if issue you a summons to court that it's game over. If you can provide a good enough defence to show court action wasn't required a judge may throw the case out not award in their favour. Generally for them to do this you need to show communication from you to show you have attempted to resolve this without court action.

Your best bet (IMO) is to chance your arm and write back asking what the debt relates to and some supporting evidence, if they can't provide this the chances of them taking it to court are minimal as they cannot prove you owe it. Once they reply with evidence you have a better idea of where you stand and what you need to do.

Others have said if you ignore this you only have 2 years to go before it is SB which is an option but it is something of a gamble and doesn't guarantee that this matter will go away.

I almost put on my earlier post 'if you're going for option 2, don't apply for your credit report'! You could have got this for £2 or got paid £5 for a free trial if you'd gone through Quidco. Anyway...

If your Vanquis account defaulted over six years ago it would not show, Another reason may be that it has been sold on to someone else, maybe Lowells. Or they could have the catalogue debt.

They'll be writing to you shortly I expect.

If they come again, call the police and ask them to remove a trespasser under stalking laws.

They are chancers. The debt has already been removed from your credit report. They are hoping that you don't have the resources on here to help you. Register with Noddle and you can look at your credit report for free. It updates every month.

Anyway, as above just ignore them and call the police if they do not leave your property when requested. I wouldn't even bother writing to them. It might be taken as you acknowledging the debt. Let them take all the action.

Write to the fashion world lot and get them to remove the entry.

Just an update: so dca came yesterday banging on the door and left a note through the door. It turns out they have a local office in the town next to me! So i',m guessing they are going to make regular visits!

But - he left on the note what the debt was for. A next catalogue for £277... I had this account 9 years ago!!!! And as far as i am aware haven't acknowledged it in at least 7-8 years......

Should i just answer the door to him and tell him to rack off?!

I also have properly checked my credit file. I have 2 defaults, one settled 4 years ago, and another with fashion world for £600 which defaulted in 2010. but the rest of my credit agreements are all in perfect order. But my credit score is 754 which is marked as fair.

So the following aren't on my credit file:

Next £277 from 2003- robinson way chasing (SB?!?!)
vanquis £300 from 2010 - lowell send me letters ( Iadmit i owe this so if push came to shove i will have to look at settling this in the near future)
vodadone £400 - lowell are sending me letters about this but it cant be mine as i am with vodaphone now and my account is all up to date, so guessing this is a scam.

The next account is almost certainly statute barred.

However, until you send them a letter telling them that you are not paying, they are entitled to keep trying to ask you.

Once they have the letter, they have to stop pursuing you.

Send two copies from different post offices and get the certificates of posting. Any court in the land will accept that as proof that they recieved the letter two days after it was posted.

Search for statute barred letter on here or the NDL web-site.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

This morning I have sent them 2 letters. One saying don't come to my door i will only communicate in writing, and a covering letter saying i do not acknowledge this debt - prove it.

So i will wait and see what they come back with, and if they do come back with anything then I can hit them with the statute barred letter - is that correct?

I have sent 3 copies of these letters from different postboxes too.

I also put CC Office of fair trading on the letter too... i havent really sent them a copy, but i thought it might make me sound more serious!

I'm nervous about their response, I'm too scared to leave the house or open the curtains at the moment though so need to do something pronto before i collapse with a heart attack!!

On the plus side i did tell my neighbours what is happening so they know if they see him not to talk to him!
