help to move from half hour metering to normal business use

Hi

We have recently taken on a business premises and found out that we are on half hourly metering due to the requirement of the previous occupiers.

They had something like 250kVA availability supply.

The bill we have received from the existing supplier is made up of 65% delivery charge and 35% actual consumption.

We are not going to use anything like that.

We would like to downgrade to a regular business meter.

Any advise appreciated.

I have been told by one supplier that this can be downgraded at a cost of around £400, but they are still looking into this.

The existing supplier just wants us to carry on as is and review after 6 months.

I guess the question is, what are you downgrading to? If you are staying as CT, there will need to be a change of measurement class, profile class, etc...which is just an industry process to register you effectively as a new connection...so new MPAN.

I'm not sure about the load aspects as you need someone to assess your KVA needs to determine if you need a CT meter or can go to a 3 phase whole current or single phase whole current meter. If you need the KVA element though, you will be talking a CT.

I'm sure a few other posters will understand the downgrade better, I know more about the re-registration side.

Typically they will need to see a good reason for the expected drop in consumption or an actual drop in consumption before they downgrade your supply. They may leave you with 'voluntary metered hh' rather than swapping out all the metering in case it increases again in the future.

Why is there going to be such a change in consumption?

The previous occupier was a different business to us altogether. We will have a total yearly consumption of around around 40,000 units, going by the usage in the last 3 months.
