But the calls are not Free you pay for them in the package. Also

Theirs an activation Fee of £9.99.

Theirs a shipping fee of £8.99.

Theirs a change your plan fee of £5.99p

Theirs a disconnection fee of £23.99p

Then theirs the expensive NGN and UK mobile rates. Some 0844 numbers 7p a minute, some 0871 numbers 14p !!!

Also the dear Intl Rates to non free Intl Destinations.

The recovery fee "If you accept a special offer or other promotion, such as a free month of service, a rebate or other incentive, there may be a term commitment associated with the benefit you accepted. The commitment period will be disclosed as part of the promotion. If you terminate service prior to the end of the commitment period, you agree to pay Vonage a recovery fee for the promotion/special offer you accepted. Recovery fees are cumulative and in addition to any other charges or fees you may owe Vonage. Each recovery fee is an amount equal to the difference between the price you paid and the regular price of the goods or service at the time you accepted the promotion/special offer"

    You cant port your number.

    Potential problems with 999 calls.

You cant pay by d/d, card only is the order of the day.Your credit card is charged automatically on a monthly basis. If your account incurs additional charges of £25.00 or more, your credit card may be charged before the end of the billing cycle.

I used Vonage for a year without any problems. I guess you have to look at your needs and see whether it is appropriate. In my situation I wanted to phone the US and the US to phone me regularly. At the time, I subscribed to their £10 per month package. I also set up a virtual number in New York for £3 per month. When someone rang the NY number, my phone in the UK rang. I did not pay for the call. Hence, anyone can phone me from the US for the cost of a national call. For those in NY (where most of my callers were from) the call was free. Also, I had additional facilities such as 3 way calling etc. This meant I could speak to someone in the US and the UK simultaneously for free. Also, I had situations where someone from the US wanted to speak to one of their relative in the UK. They rang my number in NY and I transferred the call to the UK number. Again, it cost me nothing. Before I forget, all my calls to UK and Irish landlines were free. I believe Vonage are now offering the deal for £8 with calls to the US and certain countries in Europe for free.

The reason I left Vonage was that I transferred my BT phone to TalkTalk which meant all my US calls were free. Also, too many people in NY were misdialling my NY number at 3am UK time!

I forgot one item. The VOIP calls were not as clear as a "BT" calls. However, since I was using it to phone overseas most of the time, it wasn't a real issue. Also, I was saving money!
