Travel Insurance - 6 week trip

I am looking for annual travel insurance for my family (me, partner + 2 month old). We need worldwide cover, including the USA. Usually we go for just a week or so, but in August we will be going for 6 weeks.
All the policies I can find are for max 31 day trip.... I don't want to have to get a 'backpacker' policy.
Does anyone have any advice on how to find travel insurance that covers this longish trip?

Hi Meggles,
There are a number of non-backpacker insurers that will cover for 6 weeks.
Here's just a few (including prices for 2 adults & 1 kid);
Cover For You Travel Insurance - £90
Insure & Go Insurance - £112.20 (no medical screening) -- £160.03 with medical
Two Point Five Family Travel Insurance - £124.92 (this is a 2 month policy, they don't do 6 weeks apparently)
Columbus Insurance - £128.99
Hope that helps!!0 -
I used Insure & Go Insurance for annual insurance and had no problems when i made a claim0

why dont you want to get a 'backpacker' policy?
As lots of them let you select from 1-12 months. So seems very odd to discount them just because of the name of them seeing as they cover the same things as 'normal' holiday insurance!0 -
Thanks everyone. When I put in a quote for Backpacker INsurance it was £220! I'll keep looking around. Cheers0

Distinguish between annual and single-trip insurance.
Most annual policies limit the duration of each trip to a month, although some do allow as long as two months. However, single-trip cover can be for any duration of holiday (up to a year).0 -

Well there are lots of companies who offer 'backpacker' insurance. You need to check more than 1. Same as with the 'normal' ones.
I used Endsleigh and for 8 months I think I paid a couple of hundred, so theres no way it would be the same for 6 weeks.0 -

Was that to the US as well Claire?
Travel insurance to the US is significantly more expensive than basically anywhere else from what I can work out.
e.g. I've got £90 for 9 months in Europe, but £131 for the same insurer to Worldwide inc USA - so it's a good 50% more expensive0 -
Please be wary of Insure&Go.I am still waiting for a settlement of my claim and now have reached the point of submitting the details to the Financial Services Ombudsman to see if he can resolve it. This site shows quite an historic detail of this companies failures, though these details can be hard to find.0

InsureandGo do up to 90 days per trip.
Direct Travel Insurance do 31, 45 or 62 days; according to the level of cover that you choose.
Annual policies of course.0
