Whipsnade Zoo

We are going to be North of London for a couple of days next month and thought we might take the kids to Whipsnade Zoo for the day. I've just googled it and it's not much short of £100 for four of us with the car and parking.
Seems awful steep for a day out ( I know they have got costs but thats just too much for us to spend before food and drinks ) and I was wondering .......
A) if I've worked it out the price right and
if there's a similar cheaper day out in the Enfield area anyone could recommend?
Thanks in advance

If you want to take your car into the zoo, then you'll be correct with the total. Is there a reason you need to take the car in and not leave it in the outside car park??
There is a 10% off offer for a family of 4 if you prebook.
£5 in Tesco's vouchers gets you £20 in zoo tickets.Dave. :wave:0 -
I did wonder about taking the car in but the website seemed to suggest that the site was huge and you would need it it get around.
Tescos vouchers is an idea but I might have left it a bit late tho"A savoury muffin?? As if life wasn't disappointing enough!" Miranda0 -
Paradise Wildlife Park is not far from Enfield and has a nice selction of animals. You can buy pots of food to feed the animals. It also has a small train ,some rides and a paddling, plus indoor soft play area. The shows are fun too. You can get kids go free from packs of Capri Sun so £32 for a family of four. You can use for Whipsnaid too.

The park is quite big, but is definitely walkable. I suppose it might depend the age of your kids.
There is also a free bus that goes round the park. If you look at the map you can see the stops around the park.Tescos vouchers is an idea but I might have left it a bit late tho
They can take up to a week, but usually less.Dave. :wave:0 -

One part is a drive-through area. The free bus doesn't go through it, but if you don't take your car in you can go on a train through it (extra charge) which has a live commentary.
You can't see the whole park in one day. Some of the bits are very close together - sealion display, flying birds show, elephant show, tigers, train station, children's playground, main cafe. If your children are very young then maybe take the car in, but if they're older then park outside (which they also charge for) and use the free bus if necessary and the train. Plan to get there at opening time and stay the whole day.
When you go to the elephant show make sure you sit on the left hand side when facing the stage. If you sit on the right then you can't see everything as the show proceeds.0 -
If you take the car in you still have to walk around to see the animals but have to walk back to the car to then move it, we have therefore found that you end up walking further if you take the car in!
Another suggestion would be Woburn Safari park which is near Whipsnade and a bit cheaper0 -
Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies.
I've been and got the capri sun packs and printed off the free vouchers. We'll leave the car outside which brings the cost now down to £45 and Ive got loads of other ideas for stuff to do in the area.
You lot are brilliant!!"A savoury muffin?? As if life wasn't disappointing enough!" Miranda0
