Home insurance - recommended companies

It might be naughty to divulge this, but the best rated insurance companies for home insurance by a very well known consumer group is as follows:
- NFU
- Hiscox
- John Lewis
- M&S
- LV
- Ecclesiastical

I've had several lower quotes from other companies inc Sheila's Wheels and E-sure , but having read some of the tales on this forum would prefer to go with a reliable firm, for the sake of a slightly higher premium. In the end I went with Co-Op, which is also highly rated.

HTH someone!

Personally I prefer their "proceed with care" comments against the bottom two providers.

My love for Which? is not high and outside of insurance I disagree with many of their findings/ recommendations. Their chart is very simplistic however as many of the providers listed have a range of products and propositions available so it is unclear which they have considered.

If you look at the other company I dont like Defaqto you'll see there is no way near a 1-2-1 mapping of Which? and Defaqto's quality ratings for the products.

I'm not sure how relevent the which report is. I shop arond every year, and some of the names on that list provide a different insurer this year to the one they offered last year. Same with the defaqto list, the broker may have the same name, but again it's a different product this year.

I strongly recommend cancelling your Co-op policy whist you are in the cooling-off period. I can only describe them as bungling incompetents whom I wouldn't trust to be able to find their own !!!!!! with a map!
