Would you advise submitting my formal written notice to the central HR department before informing my line manager verbally, or vice-versa?
Thanks!
Line manager with copy to the people that need to know usually HR.
Check the contract, some have specific requirements.
In writing, but usualy best to have a meeting to hand over.
might need to be planned if line manger is very busy if not the can I have a quick word usualy works.
Think about what you want to say, keep the writen to the point.
Remember notice starts the day after being given.0 -
The day I will be handing in my notice is impending- I'm so nervous- it will be out of the blue alright!
I need to get it in next week in order to leave for the start of July.
Does anyone have any tips on breaking it into the conversation- should I just say something like.. "Hi Boss, Ive been thinking a lot about my career options lately and although I've learned a lot with this company I have been offered a job opportunity which I have decided to take..."
I am also very unsure how to respond when he asks where I'm going to, in case he tries to screw it up for me after I've left. Surely that is illegal?
But I would like to be able to be open about my new job with everyone at work. Any advice on that?
Many thanks!0 -
if it is out of the blue does that mean you haven't been referenced?
I would never had in my notice until that was doneDebt free 4th April 2007.

Hi
I had a conditional offer depending on references and a medical.
I have since recieved Email confirmation that my references and medical have passed, therefore I take that as a full unconditional offer- am I correct in doing so?
They musn't have contacted my libne manager just the HR dept. when they did the referencing.
Many thanks0 -
Hi boss - I've got great news! I've been offered another job.
If they have got references - then he must know.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Don't !!!!! foot around just tell them staight.
One thing, I forget if we covered it, do you have any training clawbacks that may kick in.0 -
HR will have passed on the word but he may just be thinking you flunked the assessment.
You are just changing jobs, not being the first man to give birth. They have heard it all before so get on it itDebt free 4th April 2007.

When I did it, I asked my manager if I could have a quiet word with him and went into a meeting room where we could talk in private.
I first started talking about how I had enjoyed the position, that I have developed lots of skills and greatful for this opportunity, etc before breaking that I'm planning to leave. Its gives an chance to say thanks to your current employers with them thinking straight before they think of the huge task they have of finding your replacement."No likey no need to hit thanks button!":pHowever its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:0
