I don't have anything useful to add in terms of interpretation or anything but just wanted to say that you're not on your own with that horrible dread feeling that sticks around after the dream.

If anything, my dreams seem a lot more vivid and 'real' than my actual life.

This is one of those dreams to take seriously. The interesting features to me are that
    • the snake is part of the fabric of your house
    • the snake is not so much to do with your previous violent relationship as something which inflicted the relationship on you
    • the snake is able to provide details of the previous relationship
So, I want to ask if the violent relationship was a departure from a previously happy existence or whether it was just a development from an unhappy situation. And also do you have a partner and does this person know about your history? Does the snake hold a power over you if the beans are spilled?

Any sense of this person still being able to intervene in your life?

I am not surprised with you marrying that this is coming to the fore. I am guessing that you didn't tell anyone at the time and I could suggest that rather than being an enemy, what you are seeing as a snake may actually be the part of you which wanted to tell your story at the time and it is choosing now to seek to be acknowledged?

Personally I woudnt take it that seriously. All sorts of weird and impossible things happen in dreams. Like why suddenly dream about someone you have not seen in years or animals talking or you can fly etc etc ! Perhaps you were thinking back to a bad part in your life and as you were upset - perhaps without realising - you had a random bad dream.
Perhaps talking through the issues you had a while back might help. Often we block bad things out and its only years later that the pain ad upset surface.

Do u have an iPhone? The Idream app is good.
  • Dunno - could it be that you haven't quite put the events to rest as much as you think, that you've blocked the full impact of it all this time, and your subconscious is warning you to deal with it before it all comes back to bite you?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
