Preventing the build up of limescale

We’ve just had a new bathroom installed and of course the toilet pan is lovely and clean
How can I stop the limescale building up and becoming all scummy? Is it worth putting products down there now, ie Harpic limescale remover to prevent it or does this stuff only work once you have limescale.
Also the prevention of water marks on glass shower screens. Anything you recommend to use to stop these? I had terrible problems with water marks in our previous house but perhaps that's because they were plastic?
Sorry, have duplicated the post

one of the electronic devices (such as the above) may help to prevent limescale build up thro the whole house water supply.
be aware, ive never used one myself and no idea if they work. must admit to my doubts. do some research first.Get some gorm.0 -
The best solution is a water softener.
I live in Surrey too and our water is very hard. We have had a water softener for 20 years and it is worth every penny.
PS, how are you going to solve the build up of threads?0 -
I've used this one for the last year and it works very well:

Problem is you have to build it yourself or find someone who can assemble an electronics kit. I've built and installed one in another house with similar results. A third is just to be installed in another house.
Here is a (very) technical note about descalers:

That looks great Roger, what is the mains power supply? Is this a plug?0

Also wanted to ask, has this completely removed the adhesion of limescale in your house or just reduced it?
Does the unit buzz at all when operating?0 -
Alot of the marks you get on the shower screen aren't water marks, but soap scum. Never use soap in the shower always use shower gel instead. I found this tip on these forums a while back and there is no way I would ever let a bar of soap near the shower again, cleaning is so much easier since using shower gel.0

You don't get soap scum with a water softener.
Or if you live in an area with naturally soft water.0 -

I have to say that we rarely use anything down our toilet pan and it is fine. Once a week-or more if need be- we put the brush in it and scrub it round, sometimes we put lime lite in it if it needs it but that isn't often.JennyW wrote:Also the prevention of water marks on glass shower screens. I use shower shine after every shower and hubby uses a squegee (sp?) thingy. Both work fine. Or if you can be bothered, wipe dry with a cloth after your shower.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
