dvi to Hdmi

Hello,

I have a media pc that i currently connect to my tv via s-video. I am going to upgrade this tv to an LCD ( with an HDMI input ).

I know you can buy cables that are dvi to hdmi (these only carry the video signal ). My question is has anyone done this ? Has it worked ? are there any issues with lip synching ( due to the video signal going through the dvi > hdmi cable and the audio going through an optical cable )

Or the alternative is to buy a graphics card that has HDMI output , I suspect these are very expensive and would probably require a new motherboard.

All I want is to do is to be able to use my PC on my main tv with a decent resolution ( i already have media portal running on it and it works well .I have Sky+ capabilities without the subscription )

So am I going mad ? Can this be done ? Does it work well ?

works fine, as for the lips synching etc if it is a video file you are playing back rather than live tv then have a look at media player classic - it can alter the timings between audio and video.
