Mail Redirection

Hi, does anybody have any experience or advice re mail redirection please? I moved nearly two years ago and have been having my mail forwarded from my old address - my creditors have all been writing to me via this method (obviously unbeknown to them) and it has been fine. However, I note that the post office will only redirect mail for 2 years max. Help! I have looked at PO Box options but they seem prohibitively expensive and some creditors' small print makes mention of the fact that they will not accept a PO Box address for communicating. I note that there are various companies offering 'serviced offices' options which include mail redirection but again, they seem very expensive. Am I missing something here? Is there something obvious that I haven't thought of? Or maybe there is a company offering mail redirection at a reasonable price that I just haven't come across? (BTW, I dont have anybody like friend/family whose address I could use or would want to use for redirection purposes). Thanks for any suggestions. SJ

Why dont you write to your creditors and give them your current address, I'm not even sure that what you are doing is illegal or not
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Why on earth would you not want your address details updated after 2 years?

    Sorry but don't "get" this?

Tell them where you live and dont miss any payments. There are many ways to find a debtor.

Yes, one way is that Royal Mail are obliged by law to give the information as to where the mail is being re-directed to, so they'll catch up at some stage once they realise mail is being re-directed.

I really don't see how this could be viewed as illegal, I'm not 'hiding' from anybody or ignoring my creditors, I am in payment arrangements with all of them. I simply want to provide a correspondence address, I'm not claiming to live there, just trying to protect my real home address. I'm not trying to hide from the courts or the Official Receiver, for instance.

Originally, the redirection was done on the advice of National and Business Debtline to protect my new home address.

I have a number of creditors and have chosen to continue paying for redirection for the past 2 years. These creditors may well be able to dig about and find a link to my new address but my wife and I feel more secure in the knowledge that they are not about to come seeking us out than if we didn't have this in place.

Although we are in (token) payment arrangements with all our creditors, (sadly can't afford bankruptcy) there are a few who, from time to time, chance their luck when review time comes around and threaten to call round. With a young child at home and my wife mostly on her own at home we have been trying to minimise the likelihood of this actually happening.

If I am able to set up some sort of mailbox as a contact address I don't see how this can be wrong, I'm not trying to run away from these people, merely acting on professional advice from debt counsellors in reducing the opportunity for doorstep visits.

Good grief man, think for a moment. How selfish and cowardly is that? You can't face your own creditors at your own door. But you have been happily exposing the innocent people who now live at your old address to the risk of the visits you do not want your wife and child to face.

Can I just say that debt collectors cannot visit your home if you withdraw their right to visit, you can send them a letter stating that you will deal with them in writing only, so no phone calls either, if you want a template letter to send I'll post one on here.

Also changing your address to them won't effect anything really, are you on the electoral list ? Do you pay utility bills ? Are you registered for council tax there ? They can trace you to a new address, just update them and let you continue with life.

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Oh, for goodness sake, get over yourself mate. If it's any of your business my old address was a National Trust tied cottage that was being knocked down to make way for a trout lake! There are no 'innocent people' involved, and for your information, I am not the sort of person who would have exposed a family or whomever to the threat of my creditors coming to THEIR door. So, before you get on your high horse be sure to be in full possession of the facts. This forum really has become a mecca for bigoted, opinionated people who really don't want to help at all, merely impose their ill-informed judgements and opinions on to others. No worries, I'll sort my own problems out. Thanks to Taffy who offered the template letter, that was constructive - I do already have those in place though ta, i.e. requesting to be dealt with in writing only. However, as we know, some dca's have no such compunction in adhering to such requests.

Hey no worries, glad to help a fellow Swansea Jack ;) anyway the DCAs are complete morons who wouldn't turn up at your door as they just offer idle threats to turn up but never do. If they do turn up they are actually breaking guidelines and you can take further action in court for harassment. One of the guys on the parking forum Give em FA can help you with that.

And for those people passing judgement on people , I would suggest you read Martins thread at the top of this forum on doing that !
