I don't know whether or not I paid PPI

But have found the MSE Templates requesting Terms and Conditions, so would be grateful if someone could just answer my "Edit" (below). Thanks in advance.

.

Edit: Also, there seems to be conflicting advice with regard to "time-limits" what, if any, are they - or is it looked at on a case-by-case basis?

T&C will get you nothing if the accounts are closed.

Depends if the bank keeps info for longer than 6 years, some do and some do not.

Do you have any info at all for these loans or CC and what year are we talking?.

    Thanks for replying.

2005 and 2006 were the loan dates (one of £10k, one of £15k and one of £60k (all paid-up in full, now). Which is why I was wondering about the "time-limit" fo claims, if there is one.

I have the account/agreement numbers but not much more than that.

    Thanks, again.

The account numbers and reasons for mis sell are all you need to make the complaint, some have won mis sell from the 90s on this site.
Contact the bank concerned and give the account numbers and ask if you had PPI on there.

    Thanks, amersall.

Just to be clear, does all it require is me writing (including the account number/s) and asking whether or not I was charged PPI? No SAR necessary, or any such thing?

If so, how should I word my letter, given that I understand PPI is something of a generic term (for example, if I ask "was I charged PPI?" and it was called something else, within that particular policy, might they not simply say "No, you weren't charged Personal Protection Insurance"? Whilst not volunteering that I did pay A N Other charge in its stead).

A PPI by any other name would smell as rank.

    Thanks again.:)

Ring the bank and ask if you had PPI on account number 12345, when they let you know then we will take it from there as you may have to do a Sar if they cannot help you.

Cheers. Will do (have to be Tuesday now as bank Holiday weekend):(

    Appreciate the help:)

Edit: What would be useful is a guide for requesting PPI info in writing (so there is a paper-trail as opposed to relying on verbal communication).

A request that allows no "legalise" get-out and that either asks whether or not the enquirer paid PPI and/or whatever other terms are/were used for the same "service", either that or could I just say "Was PPI or any other payment default insurance charge included and/or additional to my contract?".

    Just a thought.

    Thanks, again.

Do as Amersall suggested and ring the bank. The formal request you ask about is a Subject Access Request letter
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553
It costs £10 and they have 40 days to respond.
A phone call will cost a whole lot less and you may have the information you require immediately.
  • So if I ask the lenders whether or not I was sold PPI do they have to say "yes" even if it wasn't called PPI because I do know that such insurance comes under various guises including (but not exclusive to):

Accident sickness and unemployment insurance (ASU).

Loan protection insurance, when it is used specifically to protect a loan.

Mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI), when it is used specifically to protect a mortgage.

Thanks for all the help so far. :)

Just ask if there was any payment protection insurance policy. They aren't under obligation to say anything at all, but it may speed your potential complaint if the say you do, or save you wasting time if they say you don't.
If they can't help you at all, send the SAR letter I posted earlier.
