Are you not allowed to find out the cost of how much a claim against your policy cost. I've been told I'm not allowed to know due to data protection !
thanks

Most insurers will tell you, if it had gone to court or you had decided not to involve your insurers then you'd have been aware of not only the value but the evidence to support the claim etc etc.0

Given you have to declare the amount to future insurers I can't see how you can be refused the information.
Sounds like an over zealous under trained call centre operative to me.0 -
It also could be that underwriters/ brokers are trying to prevent you from obtaining alternative quotes - if so this is against FSA TCF principles (see below) - I think TCF is still in place
Outcome 1: Consumers can be confident that they are dealing with firms where the fair treatment of customers is central to the corporate culture.
Outcome 2: Products and services marketed and sold in the retail market are designed to meet the needs of identified consumer groups and are targeted accordingly.
Outcome 3: Consumers are provided with clear information and are kept appropriately informed before, during and after the point of sale.
Outcome 4: Where consumers receive advice, the advice is suitable and takes account of their circumstances.
Outcome 5: Consumers are provided with products that perform as firms have led them to expect, and the associated service is of an acceptable standard and as they have been led to expect.
Outcome 6: Consumers do not face unreasonable post-sale barriers imposed by firms to change product, switch provider, submit a claim or make a complaint0 -
I can only see data protection applying if you are not the policyholder. Assuming you are the policyholder then I guess you just got someone who does know what they are talking about.collywollys wrote: »Are you not allowed to find out the cost of how much a claim against your policy cost. It may cost more in premiums but then if you meet with an accident where you are at fault.0

Just call centre dummies who don't have a clue what they're talking about.
One mobile phone call centre dummy refused to tell me the name of the credit reference agency they had used when assessing my application. She refused, quoting "Data Protection" then cut me off. In fact they are legally obliged to disclose this information, which I got after writing and complaining.
Put your request in writing and address it to The Compliance Officer at your insurer. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

The lady I spoke to double checked with her manager who apparantly confirmed she wasn't able to tell me. This is due to it being the other drivers infomation I would be getting !!
Thanks for you all your help people, may just put it in writing and see how I get on.
