Car insurance is up for renewal, I have legal cover under my contents insurance, do I need legal cover with my car insurance?

If you are happy to recover your uninsured losses via other means either direct yourself or in some cases via a "no win no fee" solicitor then you don't need it.
Are you familiar with the court system, are you prepared to do the leg work?
Do you have family and friends who would support you if you were in hospital?
If you are a savvy person and have a support network then it's up to you.
If you'd rather not do it yourself or want the peace of mind or aren't that savvy then you might prefer to have the cover.
Personally I prefer to have it although I get one policy for house plus 4 vechicles, rather than 5 polcies.0 -

I never take it out, I save about £200 a year added up on all my policies. There are enough no win no fee companies about, and legal cover will only point you to your insurers preferred provider, who'll pay them a referral fee on top of your premium. Then if they don't think they'll win they'll still refuse to act for you, even though they were happy to take your premium initially.0 -
The two policies are mutually exclusive so you cannot have just one and get full coverage.
Personally, the home insurance LE is more comprehensive and is much more likely to be used because of the greater chance of a small track claim.
Motor LE really only comes in for accidents that have no injuries or very minor injuries because as soon as you go above the small track claim limit (£1k for injury, £5k non-injury) then no win no fee solicitors will be more than happy to help you.
I do take Home LE but dont take Motor but then I spent many years defending motor claims from third parties and so would be happy to deal with anything small myself.0 -
Be aware that the "no win no fee" companies mentioned in post #3 will not take on all cases.
They only take the cases whether they can claim fees, so there is an area (elaborated on in post #4) which they will not cover.0
