Admiral + Elephant car insurance totally fuming

agree with Digitig's earlier comments about not neccessarily choosing the cheapest car cover but getting the right policy (at the right price obviously). I too have had difficulty in the past with insurance companies (direct line in particular), who seem to do anything they can to get out of paying a claim. I wondered if anyone else has had any good/bad experiences with specific companies? It would be good to know who to avoid and who to take seriously in the future!!0

I have also had a frustrating experience with motor insurance. I got a quote online through compare the market from "quote me happy" on 10th April but when I uploaded my no claims evidence they came back a couple of days later by email to say they would not take it. After research on their site I realised why and obtained insurance instead from RAC with cover starting on 13th april. After much difficulty I finally got to speak to a person at quote me happy and advised I was cancelling the insurance. He acknowledged this. since then I have had email after email from quote me happy advising me that I need to upload my no claims. every time I try to reply my email bounces back and when I try to use their contact us facility it does not connect. Finally I got a letter last week with the same message. I replied to it saying I cancelled this on 13 April!
today I have an email saying they are cancelling as they have not heard from me (!) and they are refunding my premium but deducting £53 for time on cover. Since time on cover was at most 3 days this seems a bit rich. Is there anything I can do about this?0 -

You need to get this escalated and reversed.
Their action in cancelling your policy means you now have a cancelled insurance policy on your record which will mean you are going to have problems in the future (all insurers ask if you have ever had an insurer cancel a policy, and many won't even quote once you have this in your history)
Raise a complaint via their complaints procedure and progress it all the way until they reverse the cancellation and acknowledge their error in writing!0 -

The customer cancelled first, and if it was sent or acknowledged by email, or letter, they don't need to declare they have had a policy cancelled. I'd also work out the time on cover, write explaining you cancelled the policy and why, and demand a pro-rata refund. If they don't refer the complaint to the FOS. Keep all correspondence.0 -
