Self employed with a Broken Ankle, am i entitled to any benefits?

I broke my ankle nearly 8 weeks ago, had 8 days in hospital and since then have been nursing my leg. Plaster cast is now off 12 days but still too sore to be able to drive. Only able to hobble around the house with crutches.
I am self employed with a Limited Company still not making a proper living.
I am covering my business committments & home expenses with average monthly drawings of £1000
My wife who is from Brazil and has 'leave to remain in the UK' status, She is caring for me with shopping, meals etc but she is not working or claiming benefit.
Are WE entitled to any benefits?

Hi
You may be able to claim ESA while unable to work -call the contact centre on 0800 055 6688 , 8am -6pm Mon-Fri and they'll go through the form with you.
You will need to get a fit(sick) note from your doctor.

You will get statutory sick pay through your limited company.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

You can't be employed (by your limited company) and unemployed at the same time.

If you are running a Limited Company, then you can't be self employed. You have to be employed by the Limited Company, and as such will pay income tax and national insurance contributions on your salary.
If you are doing anything else, then you have a far bigger problem than worrying about what benefits you are entitled to."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Hi,
I run my own limted company & when times were very bad back in 2009, I couldn't claim any benefits as I was still employed by my limited company - so I have insurance that covers if I can not work for any reason!
Not good news, but I would investigate that avenue for the future - as the main bread winner & working for your own ltd company you need to think about insurance if you can not work.

If you are an employee of your company you need to claim Statutory Sick Pay from yourself (the Ltd Company) and then that is claimed back from the Govt.
