Holiday price reduced substantially after booking

I recently went away to a Hoseasons lodge in Scotland. I booked it about 4 weeks previous for £450. I checked the price the week before and it had been reduced dramatically by £150. I understand that they had reduced it to try and sell them but to reduce it by a third of the price seems excessive and is very frustrating for me as it would have been a great saving and money that could have gone towards activities etc.
I enquired as to whether I could cancel and rebook at the new price but due to the cancellation policy this wasn't possible.
My question is whether I'm entitled to any kind of rebate to the price of £150. I'm guessing not, I just wished that they'd advised me when I booked to hold off until the week before so that I could get this better price as there were still plenty of lodges available.

You have no legal recourse here. Unless their own cancellation policy allows you to cancel and rebook, then there is nothing you can do, except to remember that it's never a good idea to check prices after you've paid for something!
The short version is you paid a price you were happy to payOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
I'm afraid halibut2209 is right. Exactly the same thing has happened to me before. It is very annoying but there is nothing much you can do about it.0

You'll know for next time then, trouble is if you leave it till late then there may be none left to sell off cheap.
You pays your money and you takes your chance, its up to you.
Just out of curiosity, why did you re-check the price. I can never understand why people do this.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Shucks, I thought as much. I wouldn't have minded so much if it had reduced by £50 but to reduce it by a third of the price is a bit of a slap in the face! Next time I won't check the website or I'll wait until it's a price I'm ecstatically happy to pay0

Like I always say, you only get caught once.(maybe)
What would you think if the "ecstatically happy to pay price" went down?0 -
Hi McKneff, that was why I booked in advance so I didn't run the risk of missing out. Other people were relying on me as well because we were attending a wedding at the hotel on the Friday which leads me onto why I checked the website again. Hoseasons had said that if the lodge was free on the Saturday then we could move our booking to cover the weekend so I was checking the availability not the price. Seeing the price was an unhappy coincidence!0

There's your answer.
They don't know how many spaces they will have left at last minute, so they can hardly advise you to hold out! If they had advised you this and you missed out then you would be equally unhappy.
Last minute holidays aren't for everybody, so if you don't want a last minute deal you pay the normal rate.
Plus, it's their job as a business to make as much money as possible, not to save you as the consumer as much money as possible.0 -
