Dress from H&M shrunk in the wash - what are my rights?

Hi all,

I bought a dress from H&M (label states 100% viscose. Machine wash at 30˚) and I wore it a couple of times and then put it through the wash (we only ever wash on 30). It has now shrunk and become so short that I can't possibly wear it without looking slightly obscene. I bought it online in March, and they still have it for sale.

I would like a replacement because I love the dress and I will hand wash it in future. But am I entitled to a replacement or refund?

Thanks.

I think you would be best going back to the shop with your proof of purchase and see what they say. They may want to send it away for testing first.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Viscose is weird. It kind of shrinks up and becomes concertined like crepe paper. Did you iron it afterwards? If the label allows for ironing, you could try that - I've resurrected quite a few viscose items by ironing out the creases and returning them to their original shape and size.

Other than that, take it back with proof of purchase. As McKneff says they may want to try to establish whether the washing instructions were followed (although how they 'prove' this is beyond me).
